Griffin Island is a 600 acre island in the National Seashore along Cape Cod Bay in Wellfleet. There are eleven houses on the island, each on a three-acre site.  The remaining land is part of the National Seashore in the Town of Wellfleet.

The Wellfleet House is a 4,500 sf sustainable building with an energy efficient exterior envelope.  It is heated and occasionally cooled by an open-loop geothermal system.  The architectural design is three connected rectangular volumes which break down the scale of the house, and afford maximum views to the surrounding landscape and water.  The landscape design involves a careful restoration of native grasses and woodland so that the house is fully integrated into the indigenous site.
